PlacesSection 5: Gamma Quadrant
Argratha
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant, homeworld of the Argrathi.
Bopak III- "Hard Time"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant, thought uninhabited, with a red giant for a sun. It is six weeks from the nearest Dominion outpost, and well off established trade routes. Goran'Agar survived a crash there in 2369, where he discovered himself to be free of his addiction to Ketracel-white; he led a group of Jem'Hadar back there in 2372 in hopes that something on the planet would cure them as well. This group captured Bashir and O'Brien when they landed there.
Boranis III- "Hippocratic Oath"
Said to have been the planet where Bashir first identified the Quickening, in the Gamma Quadrant. This seems to be a script error, since in actuality, said planet was in the Teplan system, while Boranis III (see under Places [Other]) was a planet on which Bashir had been on a previous medical mission. Obviously Ronald Moore should have consulted this Encyclopedia.
Brax- "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant where Q is known -- affectionately, he claims -- as "the god of lies".
Callinon VII- "Q-Less"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant, site of an unmanned communications relay station through which the Karemma keep in touch with the Dominion. Dax and O'Brien beamed down to determine where the signals went from there, and were captured by the Jem'Hadar.
Chamra Vortex- "The Search, Part I"
An uncharted nebula in the Gamma Quadrant, between the wormhole and Rakhar. It is riddled with pockets of toh-maire gas. In it is a Class M asteroid on which Croden claimed to have found a colony of Changelings; however, the only being there was his daughter Yareth.
- "Vortex"
It may have been the nebula where Worf and Garak encountered a hidden fleet of Jem'Hadar ships which captured them; the nebula looked a lot like the Chamra Vortex, and it contained toh-maire.
Dosi homeworld- "In Purgatory's Shadow"
Home planet of the Dosi, in the Gamma Quadrant, to which Quark and Pel traveled to close the deal on tulaberry wine.
Erabus Prime- "Rules of Acquisition"
A planet where Q saved Vash from the effects of an insect bite.
Errikang VII- "Q-Less"
A planet where Q almost got the two of them killed, according to Vash.
Founders' homeworld- "Q-Less"
A Class M rogue planet in the Omarion Nebula in the Gamma Quadrant, in "The Search, Parts I and II". Before the Obsidian Order/Tal Shiar attack, however, the Founders moved to a new, secret location.
- "The Die is Cast", "Broken Link"
Gaia
The fourth planet of a system in the Gamma Quadrant, surrounded by an energy barrier characterized by quantum fluctuations which prevented Odo from shapeshifting. The barrier also housed a temporal anomaly which caused the Defiant, in one timeline, to go back in time 200 years and crash. In 2373, the Defiant crew, subjectively visiting the planet for the first time, encountered their own descendants there, around 8000 people. Though they were convinced to recreate the accident so that the colony could continue to exist, due to tampering by the older Odo, the attempt failed and the colony vanished.
Gamma Quadrant- "Children of Time"
The quarter of the galaxy farthest from Federation space -- 40,000 light years at its closest point. It is "connected" to the Alpha Quadrant by the Bajoran wormhole. The one major power encountered there during the series was the Dominion.
Gavara systemA system in the Gamma Quadrant where Bashir, Dax, and Kira were headed in their biosurvey when they picked up a distress signal from the Teplan system.
Idran- "The Quickening"
A ternary system, consisting of a central supergiant star and twin O-type companions. It is the closest system to the wormhole in the Gamma Quadrant, discovered by the Quadros I probe in the 22nd century.
- "Emissary"
It is 70,000 light years from Bajor; the fastest Starfleet ship would take over 67 years to travel between the two points without using the Bajoran wormhole.
Internment Camp 371- "Battle Lines"
A Dominion prison on an asteroid orbiting a gas giant. It was formerly an ultritium mine; it now has an atmospheric dome.
Jenkata Nebula- "In Purgatory's Shadow"/"By Inferno's Light"
In the Gamma Quadrant. Kira took the runabout there to hide for a week from the Jem'Hadar while Bashir and Dax worked to cure the Blight.
Karemma- "The Quickening"
Homeworld of the Karemma, in the Gamma Quadrant.
Kar-telos system- "The Search, Part I"
The Defiant was coming back from a 5-day mission, during which it went through maneuvers in an asteroid belt in this system.
Kendi system- "Bar Association"
In the Gamma Quadrant; Kira detected two Jem'Hadar ships leaving there for the Obatta cluster, apparently as part of a regular patrol.
Kurill Prime- "The Quickening"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant, where Eris claimed to be from. According to her, it was conquered by the Dominion when her people refused to join. It turned out Eris was lying when she said she was from this planet, but the story could possibly still be largely true.
Kylata system- "The Jem'Hadar"
A system in the Gamma Quadrant, whose second planet is Class M; it is near the Trialus system.
LS6- "Meridian"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant, six light years from the wormhole, where a Bajoran science probe detected DNA similar to Odo's. An expedition there, including Drs. Mora and Weld, Dax, and Odo, found a funguslike life form (which turned out to be only a distant cousin to Odo at best) and a pillar (which see under Miscellaneous [General]). During one of the planet's frequent quakes, a volcanic gas was released that rendered the humanoids on the team unconscious. Odo seemed unaffected until it was learned that the gas absorbed by his cellular structure caused him unknowingly to go on rampages. (Note: I believe that LS6 is a strong candidate to be the Changelings' original homeworld, or at least one on which they lived for a long while; my chief evidence is the pillar.)
Meridian- "The Alternate"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant, in the Trialus system. Because of fluctuations in its quantum matrix triggered by its sun, which has an anomaly in its fusion cycle, it shifts in and out between this dimension and another, becoming corporeal, along with its inhabitants, every 60 years. The inhabitants, descendants of a stranded expedition, number only 30, as they are able to reproduce only while corporeal. Meridian's corporeal periods were decreasing in length and were down to 12 days when O'Brien and Dax found a way to equalize them, which won't take place until the next cycle.
Merik III- "Meridian"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant where O'Brien and Bashir had been doing a biosurvey; they were returning to the wormhole when they crashlanded on Bopak III.
Nehelik Province- "Hippocratic Oath"
An area in the southern hemisphere of Rakhar, governed by an Exarch.
New Bajor- "Vortex"
The first Bajoran colony in the Gamma Quadrant, where Kira and Bashir helped establish a hospital.
- "Crossover"
Third Talak'talan visited DS9 and informed its officers that the colony had been destroyed by the Jem'Hadar for violating Dominion space.
Nykalia- "The Jem'Hadar"
A city on the planet in the Teplan system whose natives were infected by the Blight. Ekoria told Bashir of a woman there whose medicines eased the pain of Quickening; it was too far for Ekoria to travel.
Obatta cluster- "The Quickening"
In the Gamma Quadrant, the apparent destination of a pair of Jem'Hadar ships detected by Kira.
Omarion Nebula- "The Quickening"
A nebula in the Gamma Quadrant, near the Callinon system. In it is a Class M rogue planet where the Founders lived; it is Odo's homeworld.
- "The Search, Part I"
The Founders evacuated, leaving for a new homeworld, prior to the attack by the Obsidian Order/Tal Shiar fleet.
Parada II- "The Die is Cast", "Broken Link"
A planet where Sisko, Bashir, and Kira went to meet with Paradan rebels. O'Brien's replicant followed them, and learned the truth of his identity.
Parada IV- "Whispers"
The Paradan system's largest planet, with 7 moons.
Rakhar- "Whispers"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant, somewhere in a vicinity three light years from the wormhole. Croden, a native of Rakhar, claimed to Odo that Changelings once lived there but were driven out; this may have some basis in truth.
Skrreea- "Vortex"
The Skrreeans' original homeworld, in the Gamma Quadrant.
Stakoron II- "Sanctuary"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant, where miszinite ore was discovered, according to Rom. Quark, as Grand Nagus, planned to go there to negotiate for mining rights, but it turned out to be part of a plot to kill him.
Teplan system- "The Nagus"
A system in the Gamma Quadrant, just outside Dominion space. The humanoid natives had had spaceflight some 200 years ago, but defied the Dominion and were punished by the Blight. While on a biosurvey, Bashir, Dax, and Kira detected an old distress signal from there.
Torad V- "The Quickening"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant whose botanical mysteries Keiko was eager to investigate. While on the mission, the runabout carrying her, Bashir, and Kira was damaged by a huge asteroid.
Torga IV- "Body Parts"
An uninhabited planet in the Gamma Quadrant, at least three weeks from the nearest Dominion outpost. It was believed to contain vast deposits of cormaline. Sisko and an away team were conducting a mineral survey to determine its feasibility for mining purposes, when a Jem'Hadar ship crashed nearby.
Trialus system- "The Ship"
A system in the Gamma Quadrant, whose only planet is Meridian. There is an anomaly in the sun's fusion cycle, indicated by modulated gamma bursts.
Vandros IV- "Meridian"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant, where the Dominion found an ancient Iconian gateway. Sisko led a joint mission with Omet'iklan's troop to destroy the gateway before it could be used by a group of renegade Jem'Hadar.
Verath system- "To the Death"
A system in the Gamma Quadrant, home to a great civilization 30,000 years ago, spanning over two dozen systems. Vash auctioned off a statue from that civilization.
Yadera Prime- "Q-Less"
A planet in the Gamma Quadrant, taken over by the Dominion. A native, Rurigan, left and created a colony of holograms in order to recapture the way of life he had lost. It may have been one of the places visited by the Changelings long ago, as evidenced by the Changeling legend Taya told Odo.
