Short for Cardassians; a term sometimes used by O'Brien.
Carrington AwardThe Federation's most prestigious medical award, the crowning achievement of a lifetime in medicine. Bashir was its youngest nominee ever, in 2371; that year's award, however, went to Dr. Henri Roget.

Chula
A Wadi game in which the primary player rolls a die and moves four pieces around a multilevel playing board; meanwhile, four actual people must traverse a series of dangers to advance through each level, or "shap", as they "move along home". Only children start at the first shap. "Chula" is also the name of a roll which means the pieces will meet the Chandra. Falow forced Quark to play the game when he caught the Ferengi cheating at Dabo; Sisko, Kira, Dax, and Bashir were involuntarily recruited as the pieces. Afterward, they learned they were never in any actual danger.

Connelly- "The Visitor"
The name of the identity O'Brien took in order to infiltrate the Orion Syndicate on a mission for Starfleet Intelligence. "Connelly" was supposedly a tinkerer, down on his luck, with no family, who had been in prison on Dayos IV.
"Constable"- "Honor Among Thieves"
A name by which Odo is often addressed. It is not really a title but a nickname which was bestowed on him by Kira and has stuck. Odo claims to barely tolerate it, but rarely bothers to object.
Continuing CommitteeA ruling body on Romulus, of which the head of the Tal Shiar is usually a member.

Dabo girlAn attractive and scantily-clad woman who runs a Dabo table. At Quark's, they also work as waitresses.
Daystrom InstituteA famous Federation scientific institute. Vash's membership in its archaeological council was suspended twice for illegally selling artifacts; however, she was invited back to speak there after her return from the Gamma Quadrant, an offer she turned down.

In Queen's Gambit, a former agent who comes out of retirement to help Bashir's character foil a plot to assassinate the Queen of England. Bashir assigned the role to Odo, who bowed out.
Earth guidebook- "A Simple Investigation"
Bashir and O'Brien gave Nog one as Nog was leaving for Starfleet Academy. It came in handy when Nog was propelled to 1947 Earth with Quark and Rom.

Bashir's teddy bear, which he has had since early childhood. He told Ekoria that Kukalaka was his first patient, on whom he performed "surgery" at age five. Bashir continued to nurse Kukalaka throughout his childhood as the bear continued to fall apart. Kukalaka is now on a shelf in his room.

Bashir had loaned the bear to Leeta, who hadn't returned it; Nog retrieved it from her for the doctor, in exchange for five liters of anaerobic metabolite suspended in a hydrosaline solution.

The Changelings' term for when two or more Changelings merge in liquid form. In this way they can share thoughts and memories. See also The Great Link, above. Linking can be forced, since Changelings seemingly have an irresistible instinct to liquefy when touching a liquefied portion of another Changeling.
Lissepian lottery- "The Search, Part II", etc.
Larell told Quark that Morn had won the 1000 bricks of gold-pressed latinum in the Lissepian lottery.
Lissepian Mother's Day Heist- "Who Mourns for Morn?"
An infamous robbery which took place on Lissepia in 2365. While the entire planet was celebrating, a gang of thieves broke into the central bank and stole 1000 bricks of gold-pressed latinum. The thieves (unknown at the time) were Hain, Larell, Krit, Nahsk, and Morn. The statute of limitations ran out in 2374.
locket- "Who Mourns for Morn?"
A piece of "jewelry" worn by Croden when he came to DS9. It contained a shapeshifting piece of "stone", composed of an amalgam of organic material and some kind of crystal. This stone was the first thing Odo encountered that was similar to himself; Bashir speculated it might be a distant cousin. Odo later learned from Croden that Rakhari merchants buy them from offworld traders; their origin is unknown. Croden used his as a key to the stasis chamber containing his daughter Yareth, then gave the locket to Odo.
"locusts"- "Vortex"
Symbols of unspecified troubles seen by Sisko in his visions. In one, he saw a cloud of locusts over B'Hala, which then moved on to Cardassia. After consulting the Orb of Prophecy, he told the assembly at the signing ceremony for Bajor's Federation membership that the "locusts" would destroy Bajor unless it stood alone.
- "Rapture"
(Note: Part of Sisko's vision was apparently fulfilled in "In Purgatory's Shadow"/"By Inferno's Light". It can also be speculated that by not becoming a member of the Federation, Bajor was able to remain neutral during the first part of the Dominion war, which aided in its survival.)
LogiciansThe all-Vulcan baseball team from the starship T'Kumbra. They defeated the Niners, 10-1, in a holosuite game.
Luma Rahl- "Take Me Out to the Holosuite"
The name Kira assumed when she traveled back to 2346 via the Orb of Time to investigate Dukat's claim of having had a relationship with her mother. There, she befriended Meru and saved her and Dukat from a bomb which she had planted.
"Lumba"- "Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night"
The name Zek came up with on the spot for his "other" female adviser, who was actually Quark. It was inspired by Leeta's remark that Quark "lumbered" when he walked as a female. Quark used the name when he met with Nilva.
"lunar schooner"- "Profit and Lace"
An old nickname for a resident of Earth's moon, which Jake had picked up from his grandfather.
Lupi- "Valiant"
Molly O'Brien's doll, who sleeps beside her on her pillow every night. Keiko gave her to the older Molly in an apparently successful attempt to re-connect with her. The older Molly eventually gave Lupi back to her younger self before sending her back to her own time.
Lyxian scale- "Time's Orphan"
The scale on which a Breen nursery rhyme, sent by Eddington to his Maquis confederates, was written.
The Maquis- "For the Uniform"
An organization of Federation colonists who became renegades when their planets were turned over to the Cardassians by a treaty. They took up arms to fight the Cardassians, and were considered outlaws by Starfleet. The Maquis often employed terrorist tactics in what they viewed as the defense of their homes. They first announced their existence with the kidnaping of Gul Dukat in 2370 ("The Maquis, Part I"). After the Klingon invasion of Cardassia in 2372, the Maquis had more or less a free hand, and were able to build many more bases in the Badlands ("For the Cause"). However, when Cardassia allied itself with the Dominion, the Maquis were largely wiped out by the Jem'Hadar, though it was believed that some pockets might still be in existence ("Blaze of Glory").
Maraji crystalsQuark told "Thrax" that Livara had wanted to see him (Quark) about unloading some of these, but Quark refused, because Cardassians didn't like them and Bajorans couldn't afford them, therefore he had no market for them.
Gul Marayn- "Things Past"
A name Kira made up to get past a Cardassian navigational post; he was supposedly waiting for her cargo of rulot seeds.
Markalian smuggling operation- "The Homecoming"
Regana Tosh was a middleman for one which was smuggling Tallonian crystals.

The title taken by Dukat as the leader of the Cult of the Pah-Wraith.

A famous battle involving the Klingons. When Martok (the Changeling) said O'Brien's face looked familiar, O'Brien claimed that perhaps they had met there, where Martok and O'Brien's regiment supposedly both fought.
Anastasia Merriweather- "Apocalypse Rising"
An alias used by Kira's character, Col. Komananov; Patrick's wife.
Patrick Merriweather- "Our Man Bashir"
An alias used by Bashir's spy character when he posed as a geologist.
Metron Consortium- "Our Man Bashir"
A weapons-dealing ring, rival to Hagath's. The Verillians signed with them instead.
"Moogie"- "Business As Usual"
The Ferengi equivalent of "mom".
net girl- "Family Business", "Call to Arms"
A woman who engages in a 24th-century version of prostitution: for money, she allows men to access her mind through a data port implant. Arissa was planted as a net girl by Idanian intelligence on Finnea Prime in order to infiltrate Draim's organization.
New Essentialists- "A Simple Investigation"
A movement dedicated to restoring the moral and cultural traditions of the Federation. Its chairman is Pascal Fullerton, who hoped to shut down Risa as a symbol of all that he perceived as being wrong with the Federation. Worf aided them at first in deactivating the planet's weather grid, but drew the line when Fullerton proceeded to disrupt the planet's artificial seismic stability.

Among the other characters were Lady Wantsomore, Nigel Dunlap, and Falcon. Bashir was going to try it out with Dax, O'Brien, and Odo; Odo declined.

Saltah'nah telepathic matrix- "Dramatis Personae"
A self-sustaining matrix within a group of energy spheres which contained a telepathic archive recounting a power struggle that destroyed the Saltah'nah civilization in the Gamma Quadrant. The matrix caused the crew of the Toh'Kaht, who found the spheres, to undergo a similar struggle, leading to their destruction. First officer Hon'Tihl beamed into Ops just before dying, carrying the matrix, which was transmitted to the officers there. However, Odo's system rejected it, due to his lack of a humanoid brain. He noticed the others' strange behavior, investigated, and eventually manipulated Bashir into developing an interference signal that drove the matrix into space.

Its function is to search out, identify, and quietly deal with potential dangers to the Federation; they are autonomous, neither reporting to nor seeking approval from any authority. They apparently have some form of untraceable transporter technology. Starfleet Command neither acknowledged nor denied their existence when contacted by Sisko.
