Bajorans
Akorem Laan (Richard Libertini)
A famous Bajoran poet, author of "Kitara's Song", "The Call of the Prophets", and "Gaudaal's Lament". In the Bajoran year 9174 (sometime in the 22nd century), he was in a lightship damaged by an ion storm. He entered the wormhole and conversed with the Prophets, who healed his injuries. Akorem emerged in 2372 and proclaimed himself the Emissary, a title Sisko readily relinquished to him. He advocated a return to the d'jarras system. When this led to a murder, Sisko took Akorem back into the wormhole, where the inhabitants clarified that they had sent Akorem forward in time for Sisko's sake, presumably to help him accept his role as the Emissary. At Sisko's request, they sent Akorem back to his own time, where he finished "The Call of the Prophets".

Bek committed suicide by hanging himself from an upper walkway on the Promenade on Terok Nor (later DS9), sometime between 2365 and 2369. In 2370, evidence suggested that Vedek Bareil had ordered Bek to betray the camp; but Kira learned that Bek's orders had actually come from Kai Opaka herself. Bek appeared in Bareil's orb visions.
Belar (Victor Bevine)- "The Collaborator"
A Bajoran, one of a resistance cell during the Occupation. He made Sisko, Odo, Dax, and Garak (in the roles of Ishan, Timor, an unknown Bajoran woman, and Jillur) get up from where they had "fallen asleep" on the Promenade. After that, he was affiliated with a university. In 2375, he was among Dukat's followers. He came to DS9 and gave Kira a homing transponder which beamed her to Empok Nor. Furel (William Lucking)
A Bajoran, Lupaza's lover; one of the former members of the Shakaar resistance cell, who turned to farming after the end of the Occupation. He had lost an arm saving Shakaar, Lupaza and Kira from a Cardassian interrogation center, but refused to have it regenerated, feeling that that would show ingratitude to the Prophets. He joined Shakaar and the others on the run.
- "Shakaar"
After the deaths of Latha and Trentin Fala, Furel and Lupaza came to DS9 to protect Kira and go after the killer, but they were killed when a hunter probe bombed the O'Briens' quarters, in which they were staying. The hunter probe was sent by Silaran Prin, because Furel and Lupaza had stood guard during the Shakaar attack on Gul Pirak's house.

However, he finally realized, with Bashir's help, that the Sirah had known that O'Brien would fail and that Hovath would have to save the day. Thus Hovath gained the confidence needed to become Sirah.
Ibudan (Stephen James Carver)- "The Storyteller"
A Bajoran black marketeer during the Occupation. Odo once saw him deny medicine to the family of a dying girl, because they could not pay. Later Odo arrested him for murdering a Cardassian. Ibudan was released from Kran-Tobol by the provisional government after the end of the Occupation. He promptly plotted to seek revenge against Odo by murdering a clone of himself and framing Odo for the deed. Cell material found in his quarters proved his undoing, and Odo arrested Ibudan again. (Another clone of Ibudan was grown in the infirmary by Bashir, in the process of finding out what the cell material was. This clone was released into Bajoran society.)
Imutta -- See under People and Things on DS9.- "A Man Alone"

Nerys stated in "Second Skin" that her mother was an icon painter; she also believed that Meru had died of malnutrition at the Singha refugee camp in 2346, but in actuality Meru was taken from her family to serve the Cardassians as a "comfort woman" and became Gul Dukat's lover, which she remained until her death seven years later. Nerys was told of their relationship by Dukat in 2374, and, through the Orb of Time, learned that it was true. Meru was born in 2314 and died in a Cardassian hospital in 2353.
Major Kira Nerys -- See under Regular Characters.- "Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night"

Apparently a farmer or gardener; husband of Meru and father of their three children, Nerys, Reon, and Pohl. When their daughter Nerys was 3, Taban and Meru were living in a group cavern in the Singha refugee camp. Meru was taken away by the Cardassians to serve as a "comfort woman"; after which her family was given extra food and medicine and allowed to return home. Taban told his children that their mother had died at Singha, of malnutrition.
- "Wrongs Darker Than Death or Night"
Sometime between 2356 and 2369, when Nerys was grown and a member of the Shakaar cell (his sons were apparently dead at that point), Taban was living in a house in a village which the Cardassians burned down. Taban tried to reason with them, was mortally wounded, and was among the injured rescued by the Shakaar. Nerys later regretted the fact that she chose to go off on a raid rather than comfort him as he died.

Over-General Krim (Stephen Macht)- "The Visitor"
Commander-in-chief of the militia on Bajor. Sisko, who first met Krim at a session of the executive committee, told him that the Circle was possibly being armed by the Cardassians. Later, Krim led the takeover of DS9, but after the Cardassian involvement was proven, he returned command of the station to Sisko.
- "The Circle", "The Siege"
Secretary Kubus Oak (Bert Remsen)

Laira -- See under People and Things on DS9.- "The Collaborator"
Latara -- See under People and Things on DS9.
Vedek Latha Mabrin (Matt Roe)

- "Shakaar"
Li Nalas (Richard Beymer)
A legendary Bajoran resistance fighter who was believed to have been killed until it was discovered that he had been held in a labor camp on Cardassia IV for ten years. He was rescued by Kira and O'Brien, and returned to a hero's welcome on DS9. However, Li was reluctant and apprehensive at the prospect of filling the role his fellow Bajorans wanted him to play, that of hero and leader. He tried to stow away on a Tygarian freighter, but was caught. Li confessed to Sisko that his entire reputation had resulted from a single incident in which he had shot and killed Gul Zarale, who was bathing in a river at the time. But Sisko convinced him to stay and try to be the legend that Bajor needed. Li was then appointed by Jaro as "Navarch", to replace Kira as liaison officer on DS9. He helped rescue Kira from the Circle, and participated in the defense of DS9, but died when he took a phaser shot meant for Sisko.
Lorit Akrem- "The Homecoming"/"The Circle"/"The Siege"
A Bajoran resistance fighter, and friend of Kira and Razka. He recruited Kira into the Shakaar resistance cell. He was one of the prisoners on the Ravinok when it disappeared; it was in hopes of finding him that Kira went to investigate when a part of the ship was finally found. She eventually learned that Lorit survived the crash but was killed in a cave-in in the Breen mine in 2370.
Lupaza (Diane Salinger)- "Indiscretion"
A Bajoran woman, a former member of the Shakaar resistance group. She spoke up for Kira's inclusion in an ambush in 2356, and later made her an earring. She was among the former cell members who went on the run with Shakaar and Kira.
- "Shakaar"
Lupaza was murdered with Furel by Silaran Prin, using a hunter probe, as revenge for their part in the raid on Gul Pirak's house; see under Furel, above.

Midwife (Miriam Flynn)- "Indiscretion"
She took care of Mika when she gave birth.
Mika (Maureen Flannigan)- "Covenant"
Benyan's wife, who was pregnant. She gave birth to a half-Cardassian baby, which Dukat claimed was a "sign" from the pah-wraiths. However, the baby had, of course, actually been fathered by Dukat. When Mika told Dukat she wasn't certain she could lie to her husband, Dukat trapped her in an airlock and depressurized it; however, Kira got there in time to save Mika's life. Benyan, Mika, and the baby were among the cult members taken off Empok Nor by the Defiant.
Mobara- "Covenant"
One of three former Shakaar resistance cell members detained for questioning when Shakaar went on the run.
- "Shakaar"
Mobara was living in Musilla Province, working at the university engineering school. Probably using a hunter probe, Silaran Prin injected a microexplosive device behind Mobara's right ear as Mobara slept, killing him when it detonated.
Monk #1 -- See under People and Things on DS9.- "The Darkness and the Light"
Dr. Mora Pol (James Sloyan)
The Bajoran scientist who discovered and studied Odo, and who became his surrogate "father". Odo's hairstyle is an imitation of Mora's. He was first mentioned, though not by name, in "The Forsaken". Mora, who had opposed Odo's leaving the laboratory, came to DS9 in 2370, after DNA similar to Odo's was detected on LS6. When a "creature" trashed the station's lab and infirmary, Mora realized that it was Odo, suffering a metamorphic reaction to a volcanic gas from the planet. At first he tried to use Odo's condition to get him to return to the lab, but when the emotional stress caused Odo to become the creature again, Mora was remorseful. After Odo was cured, the two reconciled.
- "The Alternate"
In 2373, Mora was working with Starfleet on techniques to detect Changeling infiltrators; he was on Bajor visiting his parents when he heard about the baby Changeling. He came to DS9 to help Odo find a way to communicate with it. Mora advocated the same techniques he had used with Odo, causing a clash between the two; but they reconciled again after the Changeling died.
- "The Begotten"
Mullibok (Brian Keith)
An old Bajoran farmer who, after escaping from a Cardassian labor camp, settled on Jeraddo and raised katterpods there for forty years. He refused to be evacuated for an energy project which would make the moon uninhabitable. Kira was sent to persuade him, and despite coming to like him, she finally burned down his house to force him to leave.

Onara -- See under People and Things on DS9.- "A Man Alone"
Kai Opaka (Camille Saviola)
The revered spiritual leader of the Bajoran people, who in "Emissary" was the first person to greet Sisko as the Emissary when he arrived, and loaned him an Orb to guide him to the Celestial Temple.
Later that year, in "Battle Lines", Opaka went on an impromptu tour of the Gamma Quadrant with Sisko, Bashir, and Kira. Their runabout crashed on a moon that turned out to be a penal colony. Opaka died in the crash but was resurrected by artificial microbes; however, due to their environment-specific nature, she was unable to leave. She accepted this, believing she had been brought there to heal the warring Ennis and Nol-Ennis.
In "The Collaborator", Kira learned that Kai Opaka had ordered Prylar Bek to reveal the location of a rebel camp in the Kendra Valley to the Cardassians. 43 Bajorans were killed as a result; one of them was Opaka's own son. Opaka made this sacrifice because otherwise the Cardassians would have massacred the inhabitants of the entire valley.
Opaka appeared in orb visions to Bareil in "The Collaborators", and in orb shadows to Sisko in "Accession".
Other facts (more of a speculation really): Opaka seemed to have some type of precognitive ability.
Appearances: "Emissary", "Battle Lines", "The Collaborator", "Accession".
Vedek Oram
A vedek who invited Sisko to visit his monastery in Kendra Province.
Ornak- "Penumbra"
A former member of the Shakaar resistance cell, detained for questioning by the militia after Shakaar went on the run.

Five years later, she hired Quark to get her a box from behind the wall of her husband's former shop, a box that contained a list. She also hired Trazko to kill Quark. Pallra's plan to blackmail the people named in the list, who were collaborators during the Occupation, was uncovered by Odo, who arrested her.
Peace Officer (Eric Server)- "Necessary Evil"
A Bajoran security officer, stationed on Bajor; an old friend of Odo's. Odo spoke with him via subspace about the Circle.
Vedek Porta -- See under People and Things on DS9.- "The Circle"
Proka Migdal (Terrence Evans)
A Bajoran man, Rugal's adoptive father. He hated Cardassians, and rumor had it that he was abusing Rugal, but evidence did not support this. Sisko finally decided, however, that Rugal should go back to Cardassia to live with his biological father.
Prylar Quen- "Cardassians"
A monk associated with the Shakaar cell.
Razka Karn (Roy Brocksmith)- "Ties of Blood and Water"
A Bajoran friend of Kira's, formerly a smuggler, who had become a dealer in scrap metal. He was also a thief and black marketeer. Shakaar Edon (Duncan Regehr)
A Bajoran resistance fighter, leader of the cell named after him, which was the cell in which Kira fought. He had a bit of a reputation as a ladies' man, which reached even Dukat's files. After the Occupation, however, Shakaar became a farmer in Dahkur Province.
In "Shakaar", he was keeping some soil reclamators which Kai Winn wanted back. Kira was attempting to reach a compromise when Winn sent security agents to arrest Shakaar, who went on the run with his old cell, including Kira. During this time, Shakaar's popularity grew to the point where he realized that a civil war could result if the conflict continued. Finally he announced his intention to run for First Minister, an office which he won.
Shakaar came to DS9 in "Crossfire" for negotiations to shorten the timetable for Bajor's admission to the Federation. While there, he was guarded by Odo due to threats of assassination. Shakaar and Kira became lovers at that time. He later was present when Kira gave birth to Kirayoshi O'Brien in "The Begotten". However, Shakaar and Kira finally broke up following a visit to the Kenda shrine, where they had asked the Prophets if they were meant to walk the same path, and the answer came up negative.
In "His Way", when Kira went to Bajor to visit Shakaar, everyone, including Odo, assumed that they would resume their relationship, but actually she only briefed him on the situation with the Dominion.
Appearances: "Shakaar", "Crossfire", "The Begotten".
The Sirah (Kay E. Kuter)
The aged "storyteller" of a Bajoran village, whom Bashir was summoned to treat when he fell ill. Bashir was unable to save him, but before dying, the Sirah named O'Brien as his successor. It was thought afterwards that this was his way of giving his apprentice, Hovath, the confidence to be his true successor.
Sirco Ch'ano- "The Storyteller"
A Bajoran man who ordered 100 gross of self-sealing stem bolts from a Lissepian trader, but was unable to pay. Later, he obtained the bolts from Jake and Nog, in exchange for seven tessipates of land on Bajor.
- "Progress"
Ranjen Solbor (James Otis)
Kai Winn's assistant, who had been with her for many years.
- "'Til Death Do Us Part", "Strange Bedfellows"
Solbor, who was suspicious of "Anjohl", revealed to Kai Winn that DNA sequencing tests had proven that Anjohl was really Gul Dukat. When he realized that Winn intended to betray the Prophets by freeing the pah-wraiths, she stabbed him to death before he could alert anyone.
Vedek Solis- "The Changing Face of Evil"
A vedek who, during the 2374 Gratitude Festival, was fundraising on the Promenade for Bajoran flood victims. Odo arrested him because he didn't have a license to do so. Though he wasn't in holding for more than an hour, this caused Odo and Kira's first argument as a couple.
Vedek Sorad (Robert Curtis-Brown)- "Tears of the Prophets"
A representative from the Vedek Assembly, who came to DS9 with Minister Rozahn to deliver the provisional government's response to the Skrreeans' request to be allowed to emigrate.
Dr. Surmak Ren (Matthew Faison)- "Sanctuary"
A Bajoran doctor, formerly of the Higa Metar cell. He was medical assistant to Dekon Elig, and witnessed Dekon's death certificate in 2362. Later he was repatriated to Bajor on the closing of the camp, and became chief administrator of the Ilvian Medical Complex. When contacted by Kira, Surmak claimed to know little about the aphasia virus, and refused to help, whereupon Kira kidnapped him and informed him that he had now been exposed. Thus motivated, Surmak then went to DS9 and found the cure. (Surmak's biodata, shown on screen, said that his parents were Surmak Hoek and Surmak Stimpson; one of the in-jokes scattered through the computer panels on the series by Michael Okuda. These jokes were not meant to be visible to the viewer, but this one was quite clear.)
Nurse Tagana -- See under People and Things on DS9.- "Babel"
Tahna Los (Jeffrey Nordling)
A Bajoran terrorist and member of the Kohn-Ma, who was being chased by Gul Danar's warship when he sought asylum on DS9. Kira, who had fought with Tahna in the underground, worked to gain amnesty for him and the rest of the Kohn-Ma. However, it turned out that Tahna was dealing with Lursa and B'Etor for a cylinder of bilitrium, which together with the antimatter converter he had stolen from the Cardassians, would make a powerful bomb. His purpose was to destroy the wormhole, in the belief that without it, the Federation would leave Bajor to its own interests. Kira finally turned against him and worked to foil him; as he was finally arrested, Tahna labelled her a traitor.
Talnot- "Past Prologue"
A Bajoran whose prophecy of the "final days" was quoted by Winn.
Kai Taluno- "'Til Death Do Us Part"
A Kai in the 22nd century, whose ship was disabled for several days in the Denorios Belt. He said the heavens opened up and nearly swallowed his ship, which, among other things, led Sisko and Dax to discover the wormhole.
Tekoa -- See under People and Things on DS9.- "Emissary"

Timor Landi- "'Til Death Do Us Part"
A Bajoran bookkeeper from Rakantha Province, age 46 in 2366; he had a wife and two sons. Like Ishan and Jillur, he had family ties to the resistance, which almost every Bajoran did by then. Timor was one of three Bajorans who were unjustly accused of attempting to assassinate Gul Dukat, and subsequently executed. In Odo's reminiscence of the event, his mind cast himself in the role of Timor.

A candidate for Kai. Kira joked to Bareil that she was thinking of voting for her.

A member of the Bajoran provisional government, in charge of the energy-tapping project on Jeraddo.
Trakor- "Progress"
A Bajoran who, 3000 years ago, made at least 4 prophecies. His third was written after he encountered the Orb of Change. It mentioned three vipers returning to their nest in the sky and causing the temple to burn and its gates to be cast open. Yarka interpreted it to mean that the three Cardassians coming to the station would destroy the wormhole. Instead, a subspace trail was ignited through the wormhole, making communications through it possible. Trakor's 4th prophecy concerned the Emissary facing a fiery trial and being forced to make a decision.
Trazko (Robert Mackenzie)- "Destiny"

Trentin Fala (Jennifer Savidge)- "Necessary Evil"
A Bajoran woman who spent the Occupation cleaning floors in a Cardassian records office in Dahkur Province, and passing information to the Shakaar resistance cell. It was her information that helped them bomb Gul Pirak's house. In 2373, after Latha's death, Fala contacted Kira for help; Kira promised to have Worf and Dax pick her up and take her to safety on DS9, but as they were beaming her up, she was killed by a remat detonator -- the handiwork of Silaran Prin.

A member of the Bajoran militia force under Colonel Lenaris, who almost started a shootout when he fired at Furel while Shakaar and Kira were talking to Lenaris.
Vedek Ungtae- "Shakaar"
A leading candidate to succeed Winn as Kai.
Vaatrik- "What You Leave Behind"
A Bajoran chemist who ran a shop on the station during the Occupation. He was found murdered in his shop; the case was Odo's first criminal investigation. It went unsolved until a list naming eight collaborators was found in the wall of Vaatrik's former shop. Odo realized that Vaatrik had been a collaborator too, the direct contact of Gul Dukat. Kira finally admitted that she had been looking for the list in the shop when Vaatrik walked in on her, and she had no choice but to kill him.
- "Necessary Evil"
Varani (William Schallert)
One of Bajor's most famous musicians. Much to Quark's displeasure, the bar patrons were so mesmerized by his playing that they weren't drinking or gambling. Varani asked Kira to prod the ministers of the provisional government to rebuild Bajor's exhibition halls such as the Jalanda Forum.
- "Sanctuary"
Varis Sul (Gina Philips)
Tetrarch of the Paqu, whose parents were killed by the Cardassians. She was 15 when she came to DS9 in 2369 to negotiate a border dispute with the Navot, and was befriended by Jake and Nog. Inspired by Nog, Varis decided to offer the Navot their former land back, in exchange for free trade access to both sides of the Glyrhond.
Vendor -- See under People and Things on DS9.- "The Storyteller"
Dr. Weld Ram (Matt McKenzie)

Vedek Yarka (Erick Avari)- "The Storyteller"
A Vedek who had been defrocked, officially for teachings contrary to the Bajoran faith, but actually for leading protests against the Vedek Assembly when they endorsed the peace treaty with Cardassia. He came to DS9 to warn Sisko of Trakor's third prophecy. Afterwards, he admitted he had let his distrust of Cardassians blind him to what the prophecy had really said.
Vedek Yassim (Lilyan Chauvin)- "Destiny"
A leading opponent of the Dominion occupation, who organized a demonstration on the Promenade to protest the sending of 400 Vorta "facilitators" to Bajor. The day after accusing Kira of being a Dominion apologist, she carried out her protest -- by publicly hanging herself from the railing of the Promenade's second level.

A Bajoran midwife, who attended the birth of the O'Briens' son.
Zayra -- See under People and Things on DS9.- "The Begotten"
